RYT means Registered Yoga Teacher. Like sex offenders, there needs to be a careful record, a registry, if you will, of anyone willing to spend thousands of hours and dollars cultivating their abilities to breathe and sit still.
I did that. My childhood self is pretty fucking disappointed in me for investing so much time and money in not doing cool shit, like drawing, interrupting authority figures, and collecting large pieces of styrofoam for spaceship construction.
Still, I'm pretty into yoga, specifically Ashtanga yoga, an extremely rigorous and structured branch whose practitioners typically spend five to eight hours a week working on the same series of poses, Montessori-style, with a teacher staring from one corner of the room, probably thinking about what they will do with their prAna discount. I may be speaking for myself, here. In any case, it's a practice I love.
